Pseudoexpert?
You do have ears, right? They’re probably really big. Why am I talking about ears when you are reading? I’m not sure. The root word pseudo- means fake. Yes, I’m a fake expert. Does that alter my suitability as a witness to college football? No.

One of my biggest regrets ever in life: Never playing football. I’ve played the occasional pickup game of football, but I probably could have played high school football with some skill. Could I have played at the collegiate level? Probably not.

Going to Virginia Tech can change almost anyone into a college football fan; and it worked wonders on me. I’ll always be a fan of my Hokies, but I’m a fan of college football first.

One Game in Every Stadium
I decided at some point a year or so ago to watch a football game in every NCAA Division IA football stadium during my lifetime. I'll spend the next dozen or so falls doing this and I'll detail my journeys in this section of the website. Considering there are now 119 Division IA schools, and I'll probably only get to 10 of them in a year, this should take quite a few years. Maybe when I grow up and if I have the money, I can fly around the country and watch Thursday, then Friday, then Saturday and maybe even a Sunday game. But until I get a sponsorship or I become rich, this will not be the case. I'll take pictures and write stories in an attempt to convey the gameday experience of each school as best as possible.

I set two ground rules for this life goal. Most importantly, for a visit to count I must actually watch a game involving the home team. I've seen games in the Superdome in New Orleans for example, but I've never seen Tulane play a game there. Second, I will cheer for the home team unless VT is playing in the game. It will be mighty hard to cheer for the likes of Notre Dame and Ohio State but I'll try my best.

Right now, here is my tentative gameday schedule for this upcoming football season:

Date Game Location
Sun. Sep 4, 2005 VT at N.C. State Carter-Finley Stadium - Raleigh, NC
Sat. Sep 10, 2005 *VT at Duke Wallace Wade Stadium - Durham, NC
Sat. Oct 1, 2005 *VT at WVU Mountaineer Field - Morgantown, WV
Sat. Oct 8, 2005 Ohio State at Penn State Beaver Stadium - State College, PA
Sat. Oct 15, 2005 *Kent State at Navy Memorial Stadium - Annapolis, MD
Thu. Oct 20, 2005 *VT at Maryland Byrd Stadium - College Park, MD
Sat. Oct 22, 2005 Louisville at Cincinnati Nippert Stadium - Cincinnati, OH
Sat. Oct 29, 2005 South Carolina at Tennessee Neyland Stadium - Knoxville, TN
Sat. Nov 5, 2005 *Miami at VT Lane Stadium - Blacksburg, VA
Sat. Nov 19, 2005 VT at Virginia Scott Stadium - Charlottesville, VA
     * indicates tickets have been secured.

Ok, so it is easy to notice that most of the games listed are Virginia Tech games. That's because I like watching Virginia Tech and in most cases a Virginia Tech game in another stadium will probably provide one of the more exciting and energy-filled games at that venue for the entire year. Other than that, I'm looking to not be completely bored out of my mind at some of the games. I feel like I love college football but maybe only big time college football? I'll find out soon enough, but this will definitely be a good way to see the country.
